I grew up surrounded by books.
Being the third-born child, many books belonged first to my older brothers. But since I was also the only girl I was treated to new ones too. Ones about princesses and fairy tales and girls who overcome impossible odds.
My Mom passed on her love for books by constantly reading to us or having us spend time reading to ourselves or others. We lived near a publishing company who held an annual book sale of products they needed to remove from their warehouse. We’re talking less than a dollar for great classics of literature.
My Mom would arrive early, stand in line for hours until the doors opened, then methodically attack the shelves once she was able. Some homes have carefully manicured bookshelves full of picture frames, antiques, and knick-knacks. Our home has always been full of books.
Still to this day, my Mom is always reading. And not just a single book. She is somehow able to juggle various novels, biographies, and Bible studies all at once. While I don’t have the ability to ingest as many books at once as she can, I do enjoy reading a novel before bed plus a couple Bible studies or books on spiritual growth throughout the week.
And I want to make part of Sincerely Anchored your go-to for Book Resources.
Books have been a source of comfort and inspiration for me over the years. A lot of my worldview has been developed by the reading of books, but I have also befriended characters. They share their innermost thoughts with me and cause my own introspection.
But in my darkest, valley days, when I have felt isolated and alone, I have run to books for answers and encouragement. Reading the Psalms in the Bible has shown me how to truly cast my worries on God. Other books have helped me to learn how to grieve the death of our daughter and miscarriages. While some have given me strength to keep moving forward. Others have given me respite from my own over-thinking tendencies. Books are help. And I will be sharing many to hopefully help you.
Time for Books
It takes me awhile to go through books too, not by choice. If I was able to just sit by the beach and read, I would probably complete a book each day. But, working from home while running around with a toddler doesn’t really afford that much time. Soo… I take my time. Sometimes I only get a chapter in from one of the books and other days I get to read more.
Whatever situation your situation, I hope that you are able to spend time reading. Reading the Bible. Reading books to help you grow. Reading books to help you laugh, to enrich or even escape your day. Books on history or science fiction. Whatever it is, just read.
I have a new section on my website titled, “Resources.” There are several different types of Resources available, but one I’m specifically excited about sharing will be the Book Resources. Here you can find reviews of the books that I have read and recommend.
I welcome any book suggestions. Please feel free to contact me anytime about anything, including a book that you loved and want me to read or any that you would like reviewed for you. Thanks for your comments!
